Description
Overview
This Bachmann G Scale 4‑6‑0 Reduction Gear is a precision 3D‑printed replacement designed for two Bachmann drive systems:
- Big Hauler 4‑6‑0 Version 5 (V5)
- Anniversary Edition 4‑6‑0 (Annie)
Both locomotives use similar gear trains but require different reduction gear dimensions. This listing provides both options as selectable variations.
These gears replace cracked, worn, or slipping factory reduction gears and restore proper power transfer between the motor and axle.
Choose the Correct Version
Big Hauler Version 5
- Metal motor mount plate
- Enclosed gearbox
- Flat on bottom of gear
- Most common modern Big Hauler drive block
Anniversary Edition (Annie)
- Upgraded gearbox
- Higher‑torque motor
- Has shaft opposite small gear
- Not interchangeable with V5 gears
If you’re unsure which version you have, I can confirm compatibility quickly.
Installation Notes (Important)
To avoid damage:
- Place the gear on a flat surface
- Press the axle straight down into the bore
- Apply even pressure
- Do not angle the axle — the gear may crack
Tight tolerances are intentional for proper operation. Minor adjustments may be required depending on locomotive wear.
Ideal For
- Restoring Big Hauler V5 locomotives
- Restoring Anniversary Edition (Annie) locomotives
- Fixing cracked or slipping reduction gears
- Improving drivetrain reliability
- Modelers who prefer repairing over replacing
